Child-Centered Play Therapy – Certificate
Application Requirements
- Complete the application, including an essay about your interest in the certificate program.
- Submit official degree-bearing transcript(s) from a U.S. regionally accredited institution, showing at least a bachelor's degree.

- Provide two letters of reference.
- Submit a current resume.
- Complete a 15-20 minute admissions interview with the Director of the Regis Center for Play Therapy. In this interview, you will be asked about your interest in working with children and completing the certificate.
- Complete a background check through the process guided by the Office of Admissions.
- Await admission decision. If accepted, submit the $350 non-refundable deposit.
- If eligible, apply for financial aid through the process guided by Financial Aid.
- Complete the certificate within four years.
Eligibility
- Open to practicing mental health clinicians or clinicians-in-training (e.g., counselors, social workers, psychologists, school counselors, psychiatrists and related professionals).
- Non-degree-seeking students (e.g., parents, educators) may enroll in Introduction to Play Therapy and Advanced Play Therapy but cannot enroll in Play Clinic A/B or earn the certificate. If you are a non-degree-seeking student, you are not eligible for financial aid and must pay tuition in full before the first class.
Completion of the certificate supports progress toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist™ (RPT). Please be aware that only individuals with a master’s degree in a mental health field are eligible for the RPT credential. Internship hours are not required to apply, and current students are welcome to enroll.
Current Regis Students
No application is required. Please email the Director of the Regis Center for Play Therapy about your intention to complete the Certificate in Child-Centered Play Therapy.
- Complete the four required courses within four years and receive a grade of at least B- or above.
- Demonstrate the required Professional Dispositions in alignment with the Regis values throughout the four courses.
- Submit the application for the certificate in Ranger Portal during the semester before graduation.
