Regis University To Host State Robotics Competition

The event will include students in grades 7-12 from all over the Denver metro

Regis University will host middle and high school students on January 7 from all over Denver in the FIRST Tech Challenge, a robotics competition that will send winners on a path toward a state championship.

The teams include students in grades 7-12 that will compete in design, build, program and operate robots to play a floor game. Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles while realizing the value of hard work, innovation and sharing ideas.

Regis’ Anderson College Business of Computing helped return the tech challenge to campus. The event will run from 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 7.

The FIRST Tech Challenge season starts in May, when teams form and registration opens. The event kick-off is in September when the season’s game is announced. The design and build imitative runs from September to January. Generally, tournament season for Colorado begins as early as January and February. Qualifying Tournaments advance teams to a state Championship Tournament, and winners earn spots at FIRST Championship at the end of April.

Anderson College is seeking student, faculty and staff volunteers to help with this event. The event runs all day, with teams and volunteers starting to arrive at 6:30 a.m. and the final closing comments around 8: p.m. More information can be found at https://coloradofirst.org/COFIRST/ftc/.
