$1 million gift from Regis alumnus to provide educational opportunities

Regis University has received a $1 million gift to support scholarships for traditional undergraduate students with high financial need. The donation is the latest act of generosity from a Regis alumnus and long-time supporter who has experienced the positive impact of a transformational education at Colorado’s Jesuit Catholic University.

The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, graduated with a business degree from Regis College in 1970. Today, he leads a successful, family-owned manufacturing company with operations worldwide. The $1 million gift will support an endowed scholarship he and his wife established in 2012. To date, more than 30 Regis undergraduates have received the award, most of whom have studied business.

With this additional $1 million gift, many more high-potential students will receive financial resources to pursue an undergraduate degree at Regis, reducing their financial concerns and burdens. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years, provided the student makes steady progress towards a degree. The donor wishes to support students who work hard and persevere in college and in life.

“I was very fortunate: My dad paid for my education, and Regis took a chance on me,” he said. “Our company had a very successful year, and I just figured that it’s the right thing to do -- to pass that on and give some of that back.”

Regis University President, Salvador D. Aceves, Ed.D., said this $1 million gift is a wonderful investment in our community.

“We are so grateful that this generous friend of Regis recognizes the long-term impact of a Regis education,” he said. “Because of this gift, talented and deserving students of diverse backgrounds will continue to have access to a Jesuit Catholic education. And like so many Regis alumni have done, they will go on to lead purposeful and productive lives as leaders and innovators.”
