Regis University Names Rev. D. Scott Hendrickson as Interim President

Regis University announced today the appointment of Rev. D. Scott Hendrickson, S.J. as interim president, effective July 21, 2025. He will succeed President Salvador D. Aceves, who will step down July 31 to become president of his alma mater, the University of San Francisco, a fellow Jesuit Catholic institution.

Hendrickson currently serves as associate provost at Loyola University Chicago and brings nearly 30 years of Jesuit formation and leadership experience to the role. The Regis University Board of Trustees made the appointment following a period of discernment and prayerful consideration.

“Fr. Hendrickson joins Regis at a pivotal moment in the University’s journey, and we are confident that he will lead us through this transition with the wisdom and grace that have defined his life and career,” said Derek Scarth, chair of the Regis University Board of Trustees.

Hendrickson holds a doctorate in medieval and modern languages from the University of Oxford, and master’s degrees in Hispanic studies and Spanish literature from New York University and Bowling Green State University. He also studied at Pontifical Comillas University and Saint Louis University. His service to Jesuit higher education includes board membership at Gonzaga University, Loyola Marymount University and Canisius University.

The Board expressed full confidence in Hendrickson’s ability to support the senior leadership team as Regis continues to implement its strategic plan. University leaders are focused on reimagining Regis through initiatives centered on student success, institutional health, mission integration and community impact.

“I am deeply honored and excited to take on this important role and am grateful for the Board’s confidence in me,” Hendrickson said. “The institution’s strength in mission, commitment to student belonging and success, its diverse academic profile, and a clear track record of innovation and service position the University for a bright future. In its clear Jesuit identity, and facing the headwinds of higher education, Regis is rooted and ready.”

The University reiterated its commitment to the values that have guided Regis for more than 145 years: the pursuit of truth, formation of the whole person, and being people for and with others.

“Fr. Hendrickson shares these values and will work tirelessly to ensure our students continue to receive the transformative education that is the hallmark of Jesuit higher education,” Scarth said.
The Board also expressed its deep gratitude to President Aceves for more than a decade of service in various leadership roles. His tenure has strengthened the institution and positioned Regis for long-term success.

“We ask for your prayers and support as Fr. Hendrickson assumes this important role,” Scarth said. “In the spirit of St. Ignatius, we trust that through collaborative leadership and faithful service, we will continue to fulfill our mission of developing leaders who will make a positive impact in our world.”
