Surely by now the internet has told you about the man who strapped his Fitbit to a ceiling fan. How’d that work out for him? He may have convinced a wristband that he was the most physically fit person in his zip code. But his body knew otherwise.
We sympathize with the struggle. Anyone who has ever tried to fit some exercise into an already tight routine will surely welcome this good news: Experts have found that just 30 minutes of daily exercise can improve your mood, energy levels and yes, your waistline.
Since finding a spare 30 minutes a day can be more strenuous than actual physical activity, we recommend mastering the lunch-break workout. Here’s how you’ll escape from the office to break a sweat:
- Block off your calendar, giving yourself buffer time to change and clean up
- Brown bag a lunch to save time – think simple meals that you can eat at your desk
- Find a workout buddy who shares your schedule and can help you stay motivated
- If you’re looking for a challenge beyond your daily dose of pushups and jumping jacks, a simple Google search will produce a bounty of 30-minute routines you can perform in the gym, at home or outdoors
Set realistic goals for yourself so you don’t get overwhelmed. Your schedule may not let you step out of the office every day, but once you’re in the habit, you’ll find ways to work fitness into your routine. You may even look forward to it!
