The Regis University debate team won its first regional championship, besting 60 teams at the United States Universities Western Regional Championships held at the University last weekend.

The duo of sophomore Nicholas Aranda and junior Catie Cheshire won the grand final after three days of debating. Regis junior Sally Andarge and senior Andy Nguyen advance to the quarterfinals, and sophomore Thomas Jones and freshman William Nunley advance to the semifinals.

Regis had the only team with three duos making the final 16.  

The team in now preparing for April’s national championship event at Clemson University in South Carolina.
