M.S. Biomedical Sciences

Application materials and documents should be submitted directly to PostBacCAS with the exception of official test scores. A valid official exam score from the exam corresponding to your goal program (MCAT, DAT, GRE, PCAT, etc.) should be submitted to Regis University directly. All other application items, including official transcripts, essay, resume and references should be sent/uploaded to PostBacCAS.

Application Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • A suggested undergraduate cumulative grade point average of 3.00 from the baccalaureate degree-granting institution. Earned graduate credits may be considered in the GPA requirement as approved by the program director. Applicants with cumulative GPAs between 2.7 and 2.99 will be considered but are less competitive. Applicants with GPAs below 2.7 will not be reviewed.
  • A valid exam score from the exam corresponding to your goal program.* (MCAT, DAT, GRE, PCAT, etc…). Prospective students may substitute the GRE general exam score if they have not yet taken their specific exam. Applications may be submitted pending exam scores, but will not be reviewed by the admissions committee until the official score is received.
  • Two letters of recommendation from professors or professionals in your intended field. One letter must be from a professor of natural sciences* or mathematics. Character references from friends or family are not accepted. Letters from teaching assistants are also not accepted, unless co-signed by the course professor. All letters must be received electronically or by mail directly from the writer, letter service or advisory office to PostBacCAS.
  • A current resume detailing your relevant work and volunteer history is required. Add honors awards, recognition, shadowing or research. Resume should include the company name, beginning and ending dates, experience type, hours worked per week or total hours and a detailed description of the experience.
  • One- to two-page, double spaced essay describing profession of choice and career goals. A personal statement submitted for another graduate health/biology program will also be accepted.

Completion of the following pre-requisite collegiate course work with a grade of C or higher from a regionally accredited college or university.

  • One year of general or introductory biology for science students with laboratories.
  • One year of general and/or inorganic chemistry for science students with laboratories.
  • One semester of collegiate mathematics (statistics recommended).
  • One course in English composition.
  • One year of humanities courses (e.g., courses in art history, classics, ethics, history, literature, music history, music theory, philosophy, religious studies, theology).

*The natural science and mathematics course work must have been completed within the last six years.

Highly recommended course work includes:

  • One year of organic chemistry with labs
  • One year of physics with labs
  • One semester of a second collegiate mathematics (calculus recommended)
  • One semester of genetics

It is strongly recommended that students have all the course prerequisites for their health program of interest completed before entering the graduate-level biomedical sciences programs.

The program director may allow substitution of other course work for specifically identified prerequisite courses, may waive the prerequisite grade requirement, may include graduate course work in GPA calculations, or may waive the within-six-years requirement for science courses on a case-by-case basis.

To request consideration for a requirement/prerequisite waiver, a course substitution, or inclusion of graduate course work in GPA calculation send an email with your full name, contact information, when you plan to apply, the specific details of your request and rationale for your request.

Test Scores

  • Individual Scores should include each section for all standardized graduate admissions exams completed by the applicant.
  • MCAT: scores must be sent to biomedms@regis.edu including the verification code and AAMC ID# which are found on your printed score report.
  • DAT: scores must be sent to biomedms@regis.edu.
  • OAT: request an official copy be mailed directly to our address noted below.
  • GRE: Send officials scores using our unique school code #4656.
  • Exams that have yet to be recorded, please report the date of the exam, exam type and have official scores be sent immediately post exam.
  • Exam scores should be recorded on the application. Applications will not be reviewed without official exam scores.
  • Unofficial exam scores should be recorded on the application. If no official scores are available to date, report the date of the exam and the exam type on your application. Send official test scores immediately upon completion.

Regis University Guaranteed Admissions Program

Regis University students may be eligible for Guaranteed Admission into Biology Graduate programs if they successfully meet all the following requirements:

  • Complete at least three years of full-time study (six regular semesters) through Regis University.
  • Must be enrolled full-time in courses for the Spring semester that would fulfill remaining Regis University graduation requirements. (An exception can be made for up to 9 SH of outstanding coursework that the student intends to complete in the following summer.
  • Must not have a record of academic misconduct on file in the appropriate Dean’s Office.
  • Have a cumulative Regis College grade point average of 3.33 or above in the required coursework listed below.
  • Complete the required pre-requisite coursework with minimum grades of B or higher in Regis College as indicated below (unless otherwise indicated).

M.S. in Biomedical Sciences guaranteed admission course requirements:

  • BL 258* and BL 259 or 259H General Biology I: Organismic & Laboratory (B+ or higher).
  • BL 260* and BL 261 or 261H General Biology II: Molecular and Cellular & Laboratory (B+ or higher).
  • BL 416 Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry or CH 452A Biochemistry I
  • CH 210* and CH 211 or CH 220 and CH 221 General Chemistry 1 and Laboratory
  • CH 230 and CH 231 General Chemistry 2 and Laboratory
  • CH 250 and CH 251 Organic Chemistry 1 and Laboratory
  • CH 450 and CH 451 Organic Chemistry 2 and Laboratory
  • MT 272 Statistics for Life Sciences
  • PH 202A and PH 203A or PH 304A and 305A Physics 1 and Laboratory
  • PH 202B and PH 203B or PH 304B and 305B Physics 2 and Laboratory
  • RCC 200 or RCC 200H Writing Analytically
  • At least two of the following upper-division courses with pre-requisite Laboratory if offered. BL 406 and 407 Anatomy, BL 414 and 415 Genetics, BL 418 and 419 Microbiology, BL 436 Physiology, BL 466 Immunology, or BL/PY/NS 485 and 486 Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology.

No standardized test score (e.g., GRE, MCAT, DAT), formal recommendations, or additional supplemental application items are required if a student meets the criteria of a Guaranteed Admission Program. To be considered for the Guaranteed Admissions Programs, all candidates must complete an online application via PostBacCAS.

Regis College students not meeting the Guaranteed Admissions criteria remain eligible to apply and have their applications competitively reviewed.

Students approved for Guaranteed Admission will automatically progress into the graduate program, after completing the requirements for the Regis undergraduate degree while maintaining the above conditions of eligibility.


 

Application Cycle, Deadlines and Waiting List

Admissions to the program is rolling. The application form is made available in mid-January for admission the following August. Therefore, early application provides an advantage in gaining admission because spaces in the class are filled throughout the spring. We recommend student applications be received in full (electronically submitted application, mailed transcripts, standardized test score, and recommendation letters) by May 1 for the best opportunity for admission.

All complete applications received by May 31 will be given full consideration by the admissions committee within the context of remaining space in the class. Students who have completed applications before May 31 will be notified of their admissions status by mid-June, if not sooner.

Applications received in June and July from students who were on waiting lists for professional health programs (e.g., medical school, dental school) and who have been released from those lists will be given special consideration and are encouraged to apply. Students applying who were on waiting lists should indicate the program and school from which they were released. Applications received in June and July from other prospective students also will be considered, but, given the pattern of how the class has filled in the past, likely will be considered only for the M.S. in Biomedical Sciences waiting list. The waiting list will remain active through July.



Requirements for Accepted Students

A non-refundable tuition deposit of $350 will be requested to hold the seat of each accepted student. This deposit will be due two weeks after the date on the acceptance letter, unless other arrangements have been made.

Accepted students will receive further information concerning the following requirements after a tuition deposit has been received. These are necessary to allow student involvement in externships and health care or clinical research settings.

  • Background Check. Accepted students will be submitted for clearance by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) via a background check. If the report demonstrates criminal activity, continued participation in the program may not be allowed.
  • Proof of Current Health Insurance. Accepted students will be required to submit proof of current health insurance, or enroll in University-approved insurance plans by September 1 of the academic year.
  • Vaccinations and Health Tests. Accepted students will need to submit proof of:
    • A negative TB (PPD) test within 12 months
    • A completed hepatitis B vaccination series or positive hepatitis B immune titer
    • Varicella vaccination or positive Varicella immune titer
    • Two measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccinations (or one if born before 1957)
    • Tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (Tdap)

These vaccinations can be done at a physician's office, if not already completed. Please call the referral number on your insurance card to find an office within your plan. Deadline: Sept. 1.

Accepted students will be required to submit the following valid Training Certificates:

  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Training
  • Universal Precautions (Bloodborne Pathogens) Training
  • These can be completed via online and/or in-person training programs as approved by the Biomedical Master's Program. Deadline: Sept. 1.
