Reinking receives physical therapy field’s highest honor

School of Physical Therapy dean named Catherine Worthingham Fellow by APTA

Mark Reinking, PT, Ph.D., dean of the School of Physical Therapy, has been recognized as a 2020 Catherine Worthingham Fellow of the American Physical Therapy Association (FAPTA).

The highest honor awarded by the association, the designation is given to physical therapists whose careers demonstrate unwavering commitment to the profession. The honor, which reflects leadership across advocacy, education, practice and research, serves as an inspiration for all physical therapists to attain professional excellence.

I was so surprised,” said Reinking. “The call led me to think about all the people who have influenced my career. This honor is really a recognition of all the people who have mentored me along the way.”

Catherine Worthingham, who served as APTA president in the 1940s, was a highly respected and accomplished physical therapist who motivated others to make an impact within the profession.

“Dr. Reinking has demonstrated exemplary leadership in every category of this designation throughout his career,” said Linda Osterlund, Ph.D., academic dean of the Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions. “I congratulate him for receiving this significant honor.”

Honorees are nominated by peers and elected by other fellows before being approved by the APTA’s Board of Directors. Only a handful of physical therapists receive this recognition each year.

“Dr. Reinking has demonstrated exemplary leadership in every category of this designation throughout his career,” said Linda Osterlund, Ph.D., academic dean of the Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions. “I congratulate him for receiving this significant honor.”

Reinking received another notable award in February at the APTA’s annual meeting in Denver – the Turner A. Blackburn Hall of Fame/Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy. Only 25 sports physical therapists in the country have this designation.

During the conference weekend, Regis University celebrated the School of Physical Therapy’s 25th anniversary. More than 450 faculty, students and alumni attended the celebration at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.
