Denver Rescue Mission launches innovative fellowship program with Regis University

Students receive paid fellowship for program, now accepting applications

Denver Rescue Mission and the Anderson College of Business and Computing at Regis University are accepting applications for a new fellowship program to develop future leaders in the nonprofit sector.

This one-of-a-kind partnership offers students with a bachelor’s degree a 12-month program that includes full-time pay and benefits, real-world work experience, paid classroom time and 12 graduate credits after completion. The program’s start date is July 11, 2022.

“Working at the Denver Rescue Mission allows you to do good, to learn well and to be a part of changing lives,” said Hannah Menzies, Next Step Manager at the Denver Rescue Mission.

“I am really excited about this program,” said John Thexton, Director of Program Administration at Denver Rescue Mission. “If you do a Google search you won't find anything like this anywhere in the U.S.”

Fellows, who will receive a graduate certificate from Regis’ Master of Nonprofit Management program at the end of the year-long program, will be paid for full-time work and receive benefits. They will work at one of Denver Rescue Mission’s shelter locations in Denver. The fellowship includes paid time for academic coursework, as well as mentorship opportunities.

“By partnering with the Denver Rescue Mission, we are honoring a vital part of our university mission,” said Dr. M.D. Kinoti, Program Director of the Masters of Nonprofit Management. “We are learning from our vulnerable populations and working together to become companions responsible to each other.”

Denver Rescue Mission and Regis University created this fellowship to provide students the real-world work experience, academic learning and mentorship support that will build future leaders, as well as support the Mission’s work in changing lives for people experiencing homelessness.

“Our Regis Jesuit values call on us to serve and care for those who find themselves in situations challenging to overcome,” said Dr. Shari Plantz-Masters, Academic Dean of Anderson College. “As a Colorado-based university, we are proud of the partnership with Denver Rescue Mission to focus our efforts on our local community and make an impact in our backyard.

Denver Rescue Mission is currently accepting fellowship program applications for students who have completed a bachelor’s degree and have a desire to impact social change. Students with an interest in sociology, psychology, ministry, social justice, social work, political science or anthropology will be a good fit for the program. They will gain real-world experience and learn about the impact and complexity of homelessness in Denver.
