Alumna Spotlight: Project Management and Organizational Leadership

Meet Maribeth Castillo, ’16.

Women's History Month is an annual declared month that highlights the contributions of women to historical achievements and contemporary society. Since 1987, it has been widely celebrated during March in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, corresponding with International Women's Day on March 8.

In honor of Women’s History month, we’re also shining the spotlight on Maribeth Castillo, a recent graduate and proud alumna of Regis University.

Maribeth Castillo began her journey with Regis University in 2013 and holds dual master’s degrees from Regis in Organizational Leadership and Project Leadership and Management. She now works as a program manager at a multinational company that focuses on building controls, fire, HVAC and security.

Could you tell us a little about your professional journey so far?

Maribeth: I enrolled in the Regis MSOL program in 2013. I enjoyed the classes in my program which focused on soft skills, leadership, change management and other valuable aspects that helped with my professional career. In 2015, I had my first project management class within the MSOL program. I enjoyed my first PM class and enrolled in additional project management classes which enabled me to obtain a second degree in Project Leadership and Management.

I also became a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI) Mile-Hi Chapter and participated in their events. In 20I8, I became a member of PMI Mile-Hi mentoring committee. As a member, I was able to connect and network with PMI board members.

In my current company, I started as a project coordinator in the professional services department and was soon promoted to project manager. Over the course of three years, I received promotions up to my current role of full program manager.

How did your experiences at Regis prepare you for your current role?

Maribeth: The MSOL program opened doors for me in human resources, people management and being a leader. The project management program was more granular and taught me how to lead projects. Through both programs, I feel I was aided and equipped to take on leadership roles.

Do you have any advice for aspiring organizational leadership or project management professionals?

Maribeth: Advancing your education enables you to grow in your career, enhance your professional network and gain a competitive advantage. It shows employers that you are determined, dedicated and committed to skills development and self-improvement.
