Stories from Wartime Lecture Series Returns to Regis University

Poet and novelist Ocean Vuong will be keynote speaker this fall

For the 28th consecutive year, Regis University’s Center for the Study of War Experience will host the annual Stories from Wartime lecture series this fall. Beginning Sept. 27, this year’s series will focus on perspectives and history of the Vietnam War.

For this lecture series, the Center for the Study of War Experience is excited to host award-winning novelist and poet Ocean Vuong as a keynote speaker. This event, on Oct. 18, will focus on Vuong’s acclaimed novel On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous, which examines Vietnamese-American identity through the main character’s experiences. That character, like Vuong, grew up in the United States as the son of Vietnamese refugees.

Stories from Wartime, a class which has been offered to Regis University undergraduates since 1995, features panel discussions with war veterans and others affected by combat and other aspects of war. Students are asked to ponder the collectivity of history, with the goal of widening perspectives of experience and meaning with each lecture. Since its inception, Stories from Wartime has featured renowned authors and other notable guest speakers, and the public is always invited.

The lectures will be held at 6 p.m. on seven Wednesdays from September to November on the Northwest Denver Campus and will be available via livestream. The sessions are free and open to the public.
