Accessibility Day to return to Regis University campus
Accessibility Day returns for the second year to celebrate disability pride
Regis University welcomes its students and the community to Accessibility Day on Wednesday, April 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Regis’ Student Center Patio. Accessibility Day is a moment for the Regis community to celebrate disability pride, while connecting and learning about accessibility and accommodations on campus.
This year, Accessibility Day is paired with Ranger Week, the annual end-of-year celebration event for all Regis students. From pizza and ice cream to real-time accessibility tools and resources, Accessibility Day brings energy and joy for radical acceptance on campus.
Howdy Homemade Ice Cream and DIRT Coffee, which hire individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, will be featured food vendors, while the National Sports Center for the Disabled will be bringing an accessible rock-climbing wall for all to enjoy. Additionally, the Regis Library will host archival recording sessions for those who wish to share their stories about the direct impacts of accessibility, among other opportunities for celebration.
“When a person with a disability is able to begin each day without concern for barriers, knowing information is accessible, and the community in which they live is open and inclusive, that is true independence: an opportunity for each individual to use the alternatives and skills they have learned to live a life where disability is nothing more than a nuisance,” said Chad Weber, Director of Student Disability Services at Regis. “This is the heart and foundation of Accessibility Day — a celebration of alternatives, acceptance, achievements and inclusivity for all.”
