Regis University’s Women’s and Men’s Soccer Teams Celebrate Historic Season Finales
This fall, the Regis Rangers Men’s Soccer and Women’s Soccer teams both celebrate their wins of the RMAC Regular Season Title. This marks the fourth RMAC win for the Men’s Soccer team in the program’s history, while the Women’s Soccer team secured their seventh win, remaining undefeated throughout the season.
The last time the Women's Soccer team went undefeated in the conference portion of their regular season schedule was in 2017, going 11-0-1. This feat also occurred in 2001 with the same record — the only times the Rangers have ever been undefeated in RMAC play since the program started back in 1989.
For Jeff Frykholm, Head Coach of the Women’s Soccer Team, this historic win only proves to him the strength of the team this year. Nearly a decade since their last undefeated conference win, Frykholm described how “difficult it is to accomplish, and how many things have to go right in order to keep it all going.”
“Immediately, you just have to turn your focus on the players,” said Frykholm. “Their commitment to the process, their belief in each other, their willingness to sacrifice so many things in their lives to prioritize the season, showing up time and again, putting the team before themselves, competing day in and day out.”
In addition, this marks the third year in a row that an RMAC team has gone undefeated while winning the conference. Colorado Mesa secured the undefeated win last year, and Colorado School of Mines did so in 2024.
Regis Women’s Soccer had already captured the regular season title on Friday, Oct. 23, before their final win on Oct. 28. With no other team able to catch them in the standings, the Rangers were given this honor for the first time since 2017 as well.
“It leaves me with a lot of gratitude to have experienced this season with these amazing human beings who just refused to get knocked off center,” said Frykholm. “They deserve all the credit there is to give!”
The Regis University Men's Soccer team, ranked #15 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Coaches Poll, defeated Colorado School of Mines on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 5-1, in the regular season finale, securing the conference title win. The last time the Men’s Soccer team won the RMAC Regular Season was in 2013. They finished the regular season with the No. 1 defense in the conference only giving up 12 goals so far.
The Men’s team ended the regular season on a seven-game winning streak, the longest in the Men’s division of the conference. This also marks the highest-scoring conference win since 2012, when the Men’s team went undefeated in the RMAC.
For Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics and Strategic Partnerships, Tommy Gilhooly, who previously played for the Men’s team for the 1996 season, this historic season is “confirmation that Regis University is truly a community.”
"It takes an entire departmental lift, everything from the people in facilities, strength and conditioning and sports medicine; everybody has to have a hand in these efforts to be able to create success for our student athletes,” said Gilhooly. “We attract the most amazing people: student athletes, coaches and the entire department.”
Both teams began their postseason journey with the RMAC Men's and Women's Soccer Championships this Wednesday, Nov. 4, before waiting to see if their names are called in the NCAA Tournament selection show later in November. Each team currently ranks in the top 25 of the NCAA Power Index, with the top 10 teams from Super Region 4 making it for the men’s team and the top 6 teams from the South Central Region making it for the women's team. Both currently rank fourth in their respective Super Region and South Central Region.
