A visionary, values-centered leader with over two decades of executive experience in higher education, Shawna Cooper Whitehead, Ed.D. brings a deep commitment to the mission and values of Jesuit Catholic institutions. She currently serves as the vice president for student affairs at Boston College, where she works to deliver the best campus and classroom experience for more than 15,000 students.
Dr. Cooper Whitehead’s distinguished career includes serving as vice president of student services at Seton Hall University and assistant provost at Loyola University Chicago. Her leadership experience spans diverse institutional types, including key roles at the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She holds a Doctor of Education from Boston University, a Master of Education from National Louis University, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois. Dr. Cooper Whitehead is prepared to lead Regis University with humility, enthusiasm, and a dedication to caring for the whole person.
Rev. D. Scott Hendrickson, S.J., D.Phil., was appointed Interim President of Regis University on July 21, 2025, bringing nearly three decades of distinguished experience in Jesuit higher education to his leadership role. Prior to his appointment at Regis, Fr. Hendrickson served as Associate Provost for Global and Community Engagement and held a faculty appointment as Associate Professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Loyola University Chicago. Previously, he also held a faculty position at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri.
Fr. Hendrickson's academic journey reflects a deep commitment to scholarship and global engagement. His academic credentials include a doctorate in Medieval and Modern Languages from University of Oxford, master’s degrees in Hispanic Studies and Spanish literature from New York University and Bowling Green State University, and a bachelor’s degree from Saint Louis University. His theological formation took place at Pontifical Comillas University in Madrid, Spain, culminating in his priestly ordination in 2008. As an advocate for meaningful cultural encounter, Fr. Hendrickson has worked in Europe, Latin America and Asia, and hopes to build the reputation of Regis through mutually beneficial exchanges both locally and internationally.
Born and raised in Fremont, Nebraska, Fr. Hendrickson and his two siblings believe in the transformative nature and the tradition in excellence of Catholic higher education. His twin brother, Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, S.J., Ph.D., currently serves as President of Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, while their brother Ryan C. Hendrickson, Ph.D. is President of the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois.
Fr. Hendrickson's dedication to the mission of Jesuit and Catholic higher education extends beyond his administrative and teaching roles. He has demonstrated this commitment through board service as a trustee at several Jesuit institutions, including Gonzaga University, Loyola Marymount University and Canisius University, contributing his expertise to the broader network of Jesuit educational institutions.
