Higher Education, Higher Calling

What exactly is Jesuit education?

If you’re currently exploring higher education options (or if you’re a big college basketball fan), you may already be familiar with the fact that many colleges and universities offer a Jesuit Catholic education. Schools like Georgetown, Gonzaga, Creighton, Fordham, Marquette, and of course, Regis University are proud of their longstanding Jesuit traditions and the ways they shape student life and academic experiences. But if you haven’t encountered the term before, you might be asking yourself, “What on Earth is a Jesuit?”

At its core, a Jesuit education is all about social justice, equality and development of the whole person—basically, making the world a better place by helping individuals reach their full potential. As our founder St. Ignatius said back in the 1500s, we should “go forth and set the world on fire.” While ol’ Iggy didn’t literally mean grab a torch or play with matches, his words have inspired generations to discover their inner spark and use their natural talents to kindle the flame of a better and more just world.

At Regis, we embrace cura personalis, or care for the entire person, as we strive to develop leaders who are globally focused, committed to serving others and seek to benefit society as a whole. We’re not afraid to speak truth to power and we don’t back down in the face of injustice or cruelty.

Our faith guides us, but it doesn’t define us. You certainly don’t have to be Catholic, or even religious at all, to find value in a Jesuit education. If you feel Iggy’s fire inside your heart and want to make the world a better place, then you belong at Regis.

Not only will you turn your ideals into action, but you’ll find an entire community of like-minded doers, thinkers and activists here. Earning a Regis degree is a valuable entryway into a whole network of lifelong personal and professional connections. Regis alumni can be found around the globe, alongside 2.1 million graduates from the 26 other U.S. Jesuit colleges and universities.

Don’t ignore the fire inside—join us and let’s create a better tomorrow. Get started today with our no-fee application at regis.edu/apply.
