Regis University Administrative Drop for Unmet Prerequisites Policy
Policy Number: #
Responsible Executive(s):
- Provost
Responsible Office(s):
- Office of the Registrar
Date Adopted: 08-25-2026
A. Purpose
To describe the way the University may administratively drop students in compliance with Title IV Regulations and the Higher Learning Commission requirements for courses that the student has failed the required prerequisite course(s). This policy also ensures appropriate attendance monitoring given the research on the impact of attendance/ongoing academic engagement on student success.
B. Scope
The Administrative Drop for Unmet Prerequisites Policy is effective for all students enrolled in courses of any length, including students who have not successfully completed required prerequisite courses and therefore should not have been permitted to enroll: the instructor of record that teach enrolled students, and the Office of the Registrar that processes administrative drops in cooperation with appropriate Dean’s Offices.
C. Policy
- Student Expectations
- Students who do not successfully complete the required prerequisite course may be administratively dropped by the end of week three of class from the subsequent course once the prerequisite course has been graded and deemed unsuccessful to continue to the next course.
- Students may register in the subsequent course(s) before the conclusion of the prerequisite courses since Regis overlaps their terms and registration periods.
- Any student who asserts that they were dropped in error will be directed to the Instructor of Record or their Academic Dean for resolution.
- Instructor of Record Expectations
- The Instructor of Record should, in cooperation with the appropriate Dean’s Office, review the student term roster to ensure all students have met the prerequisite requirements for enrollment in the subsequent course.
- The Instructor of Record, in cooperation with the appropriate Dean’s Office, will contact the Office of the Registrar to immediately drop the student if all prerequisites are not successfully completed.
- It is the Instructor or the Dean’s Office responsibility to inform the student of the dropped course and the reason. This communication should indicate that the drop may have an impact on the student’s Financial Aid awards and/or Enrollment status.
- Office of the Registrar Expectations
- Students who are administratively dropped will not have a grade for the subsequent course(s).
D. Definitions
- Administrative Drop: When Regis removes a student from a course, without a student’s explicit request to be removed, due to the student’s failure to complete a pre-requisite course as outlined in their academic degree plan.
- Instructor of Record: Any teacher or staff member employed to teach courses and authorize credit for the successful completion of courses.
