A. Purpose

The purpose of the Campus Closures – Staff Work Expectations policy is to provide work expectations and guidance to staff in instances where the campus is required to be closed.

B. Scope

This policy applies to all employees, including regular staff, temporary and students and includes both the North Denver and Thornton campuses.

C. Policy

  1. Full-day Closure
Essential staff: each division and office of the University is responsible for identifying staff who are essential and are required to report to work despite a campus closure or class cancellation. Staff are asked to contact their immediate supervisor for questions regarding essential personnel in their department.

Staff members who ordinarily work on campus do not need to report to campus and do not need to work remotely unless they are able to do so in order to meet required work duties (see below) or as instructed by their supervisor for critical business needs.

Staff members who have an approved remote work agreement in place also do not need to work during a campus closure unless they are able to do so in order to meet required work duties (see below) or as instructed to by their supervisor for critical business needs.

The University encourages flexibility and equity.
  2. Late Start or Early Close
For delayed starts, employees who are scheduled to work in-person on campus that day are expected to report for work at the delayed start time. Employees working remotely that day are expected to also start their work days at the delayed start time.

Late start or early dismissal would apply only to anyone working in person at that time; employees working online/remotely are generally expected to complete the workday as usual. Supervisors are encouraged to be flexible.

A campus closure does not mean staff members are excused or unaccountable for work duties that would have occurred on a closure, late start or early close day, but instead, should plan to fulfill those obligations as able to remotely either on that day or on campus on another day.
  3. Use judgement and communicate with supervisor
If campus is open during inclement weather, Regis University encourages staff members to use their best judgment as to their ability to reach campus safely. Staff are required to communicate with their supervisors, if they feel unable to reach campus in a safe manner. In these instances, staff may request the option to work remotely or use accrued vacation to be compensated for this time.
